Blue tit

The blue tit is one of the commonest garden birds, coming fourth in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch in 2006, behind the house sparrow, starling and blackbird.

Ringing shows that mpre than 1,000 different individuals may pass through a garden in a single year. In woodlands, they lay an average of 13 eggs per brood, although the mortality rate in high. Only one is likely to survive to breed itself the following year.
