Parakeet

The UK's only naturalised parrot - it is large, long-tailed and green with a red beak and a pink and black ring around its face and neck. In flight it has pointed wings, a long tail and very steady, direct flight. Often found in flocks, numbering hunderds at a roost site, it can be very noisy.

It lives in parks, orchards and gardens with mature trees to provide nest holes. In its native India it is found in jungle and around farms and gardens.

It enjoys a diet of fruit, berries, nuts and seeds and makes a screeching 'kee-ak kee-ak' given in flight or when perched.
