Liquidambar

Giving the most bold autumn colours of all, the liquidambar tree, situated between the wisteria arches and the top pond, is a handsome tree from Eastern USA and Mexico. Its autumn colours are orange, red and purple. The common name is 'sweet gum' which comes from the resin-like scent that its leaves produce when crushed. Young shoots often have distinctive corky wings.
