Shrubs
There are several callicarpa or 'beauty bushes' in the rockery which display splended unnaturally coloured purple berries throughout the winter.
One of the earliest flowering shrubs of the year is the daphne which has purple flowers in upright stems. There are two bushes in the rockery.
There are a number of camellias in the walled garden's flower beds. This is the earliest in the year to bloom; a vivid white against the brickwork.
It's said that whatever month of the year you're in, there's bound to be a gorse bush in flower. It's certainly true in the Pleasaunce, where the one near the top pond is dotted with yellow most of the year.
